Funeral Poems
Strew on her roses, roses, and never a spray of yew. In quiet she reposes; Ah! would that I did too.
Her mirth the world required; She bathed it in smiles of glee. but her heart was tired, tired, and now they let her be.
Her life was turning, turning, In mazes of heat and sound. But for peace her soul was yearning,
Her cabined, ample spirit, it fluttered and failed for breath. Tonight it doth inherit The vasty Hall of Death. Matthew Arnold.

Time will say nothing but I told you so Time only knows the price we have to pay If I could tell you I would let you know.
If we should weep when clowns put on their show, If we should stumble when musicians play Time will say nothing but I told you so.
There are no fortunes to be told, although Because I love you more than I can say, If I could tell you I would let you know.
The winds must come from somewhere when they blow There must be reasons why the leaves decay; Time will say nothing but I told you so.
Perhaps the roses really want to grow, The vision seriously intends to stay; If I could tell you I would let you know.
Suppose the lions all get up and go, And all the brooks and soldiers run away; Will Time say nothing but I told you so If I could tell you I would let you know.

Funeral Poems
A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says She is gone.
Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large now as when I last saw her. Her diminished size and total loss from my sight is in me, not in her.
And just at that moment, when someone at my side says she is gone, there are others who are watching her coming over their horizon and other voices take up a glad shout - There she comes!
That is what dying is. An horizon and just the limit of our sight.
Lift us up O Lord, that we may see further. Bishop Brent

Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Much loved, missed so very much and so very dear.

No one knows our heartaches; Only those who have lost can tell Of the grief that we bear in silence For the one we loved so well.

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy. Eskimo Traditional

He had a nature you could not help loving, And a heart that was purer than gold, And to those who knew him and loved him His memory will never grow cold.
